Arcadia is an immensely popular upscale historic neighborhood near the base of Camelback Mountain from approximately 36th St in Phoenix to 68th St in Scottsdale. Its boundaries can vary depend on who you talk to, and consist of the original Arcadia Proper (44th St to 68th St, Camelback Rd to the Crosscut Canal), Arcadia Lite (36th St to 44th St, Camelback Rd to Indian School Rd), Lower Arcadia (48th St to 56th St, Indian School Rd to Thomas Rd), and Arcadia Adjacent (people who say they live in Arcadia, about a mile north and south of Arcadia Proper).

The area was first recorded as Citrus Homes in 1915, with 25 lots bordering the Arizona Canal, and the Arcadia Tract was first recorded in 1919. Land was divided into lots of five to ten acres with the stipulation that no home could be constructed for less than $5,000, which was quite a sum for the time and was later raised to $10,000. With the water resources of Salt River Reclamation Project's Arizona Canal and the creation of the Arcadia Water Company, the intent of the developers was to create small citrus orchards that would attract the most affluent homebuyers who wanted to live in a rural "oasis in the desert." Today, many of these orange, lemon and grapefruit citrus trees remain, and the area is lush with mature landscaping thanks to the irrigation.

While a number of original homes remain, many have been extensively renovated or scraped to make way for newer and much larger homes, and this is making its way into the surrounding neighborhoods as renovation opportunities in Arcadia become scarce. There are also new developments under construction today, for example along Camelback Rd and adjacent to the Phoenician Resort. Townhouses and condominiums can be found here as well, mostly in the Arcadia Lite area to the west. Adjacent to Lower Arcadia is the Arizona Country Club, a private golf community of large single family homes.

Numerous shopping and dining options can be found at the world-famous upscale Scottsdale Fashion Square (Arizona's largest mall) to the east, Biltmore Fashion Park to the west, all along Indian School Rd, and in Arcadia Lite. Nearby resorts include Royal Palms Resort & Spa, Scottsdale Camelback Resort, and The Phoenician Resort / Phoenician Golf Club (a public course part of the Troon Rewards program). The Arizona Canal offers multiuse hiking and biking paths that connect to paths all over the city (with fun stop-offs at local favorites O.H.S.O Brewery and Arizona Falls), and the two hiking trails up Camelback Mountain are in your back yard.
